Blue Velvet Star

Isabella Rossellini on Roger Ebert's Claim

Blue Velvet Star

Isabella Rossellini has finally broken her silence about Roger Ebert's claim that she was degraded in the 1986 film Blue Velvet.

Lynch's Defense

Rossellini was joined by her co-star Kyle MacLachlan at Lynch's 2018 Festival of Disruption in Brooklyn, where she spoke about her experience working on the film. She said that she did not feel degraded by Lynch and that she believes he is a "great artist."

Lynch has also defended his work on Blue Velvet, saying that he was not trying to exploit Rossellini, but rather to create a realistic portrayal of a complex character.

Ebert's Controversy

Ebert gave Blue Velvet a negative review in 1986, calling it "a sick, twisted film that exploits women." He also wrote that Lynch "degraded" Rossellini in the film.

Rossellini's comments are a reminder of the power of interpretation. What Ebert saw as exploitation, Rossellini saw as a complex portrayal of a character. The two perspectives illustrate the different ways that people can experience a work of art.
